'The Sound Of Silence'는 1964년 10월 19일에 발매된 사이먼 앤 가펑클 (Simon & Garfunkel)의 정규 1집 앨범이자 데뷔 앨범인 [Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.]의 수록곡이다.

 

팝 역사상 최고의 듀오로 평가받고 있는 미국의 남성 2인조 포크 듀오인 사이먼 앤 가펑클은 'The Sound Of Silence'가 수록된 1집 앨범을 발표하지만 실패를 하였고, 1966년에 2집 앨범 [Sound Of Silence]에  'The Sound Of Silence'를 타이틀 곡으로 발표하여 큰 성공을 거두었다.

 

'The Sound Of Silence'는 폴 사이먼이 만든 곡으로 1965년 싱글로 발매되었고 빌보드 싱글 차트에서 1위를 차지하였고, 전 세계적으로 차트에 오르며 세계적으로 인기 있는 곡이 되었다.

 

1967년 영화 '졸업'에서 사운드 트랙으로 쓰였고 지금까지 꾸준한 사랑을 받고 있는 곡이다.
