'Those Were The Day'는 비틀즈의 폴 매카트니가 제작을 하였으며 빌보드 핫 100에서 비틀즈의 'hEY JUDE'에 이어서 2위에 올랐고, 빌보드 이지 리스닝 1위를 기록하였으며, 미국에서만 150만 장 이상의 판매고를 올렸다.

 

영국 싱글 차트 1위를 비롯해서 독일, 프랑스, 캐나다, 스페인, 스위스, 스웨덴, 일본 등 각 나라에서 싱글 차트 1위를 차지하였으며 전 세계적으로 큰 성공을 거둔 곡이다.

 

'Those Were The Day'는 러시아의 로맨스 노래인 'Dorogoi dlinnoyu'가 원곡으로 러시아 작곡가인 Boris Fomin이 작곡을 한 곡에 미국의 극작가이자 음악가인 Gene Raskin이 영어 가사를 추가하여 만든 곡이다.

 

메리 홉킨 (Mary Hopkin)은 1950년생으로 웨일스의 싱어송라이터이며, 대표곡으로는 'Goodbye', 'Those Were The Days'가 있다.
